Do you guys ever use moss in the pot of the plant inside the cage?

How's moss to cover the soil in the pot? I mean the tightly woven mosses that won't unravel and are alive. I have some from this site:

http://lllreptile.com/v2/content/catalog/?section_string=cage-supplies&category_string=view-all&product_string=live-terrarium-moss

I use it now for my Dart tanks and wondered if this would be fine for the Cham cage but wasn't sure if moss was something to avoided due to impaction or something like that. This moss is very tightly woven and peices don't come off, its Thick like 2-3 inches and heavy. What d'ya guys think, feel about moss?

I've used moss for years with Panthers and Veileds and I haven't had any problems. The Veileds (and sometimes the Panthers) will eat the moss but it doesn't seem to harm them. You might not be able to unravel it, but if you have a Veiled, its pretty funny to watch them tug on it. It works good to keep the humidity up.

We use Sphagnum moss in all of our Chameleon Cages. Not only does it make the cage look better and cover the dirt, it increases the humidity in the cage.

Thank you! Moss looks great, and I have some really nice ones. Do you guys ever wash it with Anti bacterial soap first just like other plants before putting it in? Do you think the moss would die from this? Thanks-Maggie

Just wondering...

Depending on where you live there are fun little buggers called Chiggers in moss. Chiggers VERY small, very difficult to see with the naked eye, but boy do they pack a wallup when they get in you. I live in Florida, and I have gotten Chiggers many times by having moss rub on me by accident.

Just something to think about if you are getting the moss from out in the woods, there could be parasites you can not see living in it.

Hi there: I live in Southern CA. I had some hesitation about that, so the question of washing moss in Antibacterial soap. The moss I have is sold from pet stores, moss supply places. But, they have to have collected it. The moss I currently have on my supply shelf is one that was supposedly collected in New Jersey. I'm wondering how i might know for sure. I don't want to add anything into the set up that might cause harm. Any thoughts? Or perhaps planting some baby tears commercially grown might be safer?? Thanks-Maggie
