babies soaking

ecb Jan 22, 2004 03:33 PM

Both of my babies seem to be in the water, nearly non-stop
i told you they are hunting in the mist, but when I go looking for them, they are in the water-filter (yes, IN it, clining to the filter fluff stuff, letting the water wash over them) or standing in the water, with head, and maybe (sometimes) sholders up out of water, with back legs floating

i have never seen erowen spend this much time in the water (she is not doing it now, but she is the only other dragon I have to compair it to)

Should I worry, or just keep an eye on them

BTW, their horns are coming in more

I wouldn't worry. I think the babies seem to spend more time in the water. Maybe in the wild they catch a lot of water bugs or maybe they just need the soaks more. Whatever the case I think it's perfectly normal.

its a fairly new behavior
so I worried

i took the one out of the filter and put him back on his stick
and he has not moved much since
Hope I did not Traumatize him (big old scarry monster that I M)

When I pulled tracker out of the water this morning (I was not sure he was not caught under the rock) his color was Paler than normal on the body, with a lot of GREEN
YES, this is encouraging
Good color again

I bairly Flinch at a fever of 103.5, or a potentially Broken arm or finger.
But THESE guys, I M a first time mother

BTW Erowens eye looks almost normal again, and she does not run from me when I put the Neo on it anymore

Q- how can I increase her Calcium intake without BREADING the nightcrawlers with Dust?

I can sprinkle a little Reptivite or Calcium on the worms, to make them move around, but they die so quickly after that it seems almost wasteful

Would a diet of Nightcrawlers/Cricks/Mealies/Supers be enough for them?
They get mostly Cricks (for the babies to hunt) and Nightcrawlers (fat ones for Erowen and little ones in the soil for the babies.
When I put in Mealies, or Superworms, I end up with beetles (yuck)
and do any of you use Vit D? Drops or Powder

I hate to admit it but my adults don't get that much suppliment. Nightcrawlers aren't a good thing to be dusting because, as you say, they die too quickly if you do. So, what I do is dip the pinkies buts in a little vitamin powder when I feed those and when I do feed mealies, supers, or roaches I dust them with vit powder as well. They seem to be getting enough calcium from the crawlers and what dust they do get. You could try putting a small bowl of calcium powder in the tank to see if they would eat it. I tried once but they just buried it.

The babies eat mealies and occasionally roaches. I hope to switch to more roaches and less mealies but my colonies are just starting to blossom so I don't want to feed too many off yet. I use Sticky Tongue Farms Miner-all I (I=indoor) for the multi-vit/mineral powder and use T-Rex Micro-Stick calcium. These seem to stick to the feeders the best of anything I have tried. I find that these even stick to mealworms and that's a real feat!

I have also used the T-Rex Bone Aid & T-Rex Solar Drops liquids for post egg laying and any time that I think they may not be getting enough suppliment. I also use these drops in conjunction with T-Rex Hydrolife(electrolyte and amino acid (protein) support therapy) for animals that are convelescing. If you feel you need to suppliment more this may be the best option for you if you aren't having luck feeding off mealies, supers, or crix.

Other option would be to try roaches. You may find that one of the slow growing species like orange heads or orange spots won't reproduce too fast for your 3 animals but will give you a good meaty alternate food. If you hatch any eggs you will need a ready source of small feeders and these are far better than crix, easier to breed and don't stink!

What I have noticed lately with Morgana is that she will eat nightcrawlers (and superworms) right off my lap. I have been giving her extra water lately because I think she is getting dehydrated. So I have been giving her some sugar water and occasionally gatorade and/or pedialyte.

When I administer the water supplements (oral syringe), I have her on my lap or chest, and after words I let her settle down on my lap for a bit. Although I don't think she really settles down, because she is ALWAYS extremely alert. So I take advantage of that time to sprinkle a little calcium on a nightcrawler and let it wiggle around on my lap, then she will eat it after checking it out for a few seconds.

Other than that I don't have any luck with her and supplements. She won't eat crickets ever, and I have had pretty good luck with putting a little calcium in the superworm bowl (they dig in it and cover themselves in it). This seems to be the only way I can get her to get extra calcium/vitamins.
