Switching to more "natual" substrate, and some other questions....

mikeandmegan Jan 22, 2004 06:37 PM

Hi,
We got our crested gecko about 6 months ago, and now are wishing to convert from the good ole paper towels to something like bark. Im sure there a many different good substrates, but what are some of your favorites? Should we use moss or something too? Shes housed in a 25 tall glass cage, if that makes a difference.

Also, I would like to introduce crix into her diet. Up until this point, we have been using CGD exclusively, and although shes healthy and seems to be eating it on a regular basis, Ive always thought that she should be eating more of it. Recently, I saw a pair of 9-month olds, and they were much larger than our gecko. I would like to keep giving her CGD, but also dusted and gut-loaded crix. I am hoping that she will feed more when she sees live prey. What are the things I should look for in the dustings? As far as I know, I should use a regular vitamin dust and a calcium (with d3?).

Any comments or suggestions about using crix and CGD?

Thanks,
Mike and Megan

I use a blend of 60% top soil,35% peat moss,5% sand this works great for me and my geckos. And it holds a good humidity.
