Just looking for an opinion

glkherp Jan 22, 2004 06:42 PM

I have had this female since a hatchling and always thought she was a nice looking animal. She is now around 1700 grams and I'm pretty sure she's gravid. I just wanted to get some opinions on what others thought of her. I don't think she is anything incredible but haven't come across any others exactly like her. I have also not been able to get any pictures that truly represent her colors but these are close. I have put a few full size pictures at:

If anyone is interested in taking a look. Again just looking for some other peoples opinion.

Thanks,
George Knaack

She was being taken out to have her cage cleaned when the pictures were taken, but there was no fecal mater in the water. There were a few pieces of Cypress mulch and hard water stains. I still have not found a good way to get them all out.

Try a little meratic acid soak,It works on ceramic bowls im not shur on plastic,Id delute it good.

There are rust and hard water stain removers available at any hardware or grocery store. The label will tell you if it can be used on plastic. If this is always going to be a problem I'd suggest using ceramic bowls instead. Plastic might absorb the acid of the cleaner over time. Once you get the major stains off you can keep them from forming as fast by soaking the bowl in vinegar for a few minutes each time you wash it.

I use 8 oz or 16 oz. squat cups. You can get a sleeve of 50 for a little over $3. A snake shouldn't have to drink out of anything you wouldn't drink out of yourself.

That is a great idea. I use deli cups for neonates but never though of using them as a liner for larger animals.

I love her pattern, the markings on the head are very nice and if those colors are close to accurate she must glow... You've always had some nice animals...

I don't believe that I've seen you post here too often if at all. I hope you haven't been put off by any newbie dip$h*t$ that feel the need to gripe about waterbowls during breeding season when more experienced hands know the importance of following a more hands off approach. Please come back often and keep us updated on her progress.

I agree with VOT 100%. Again, she's beautiful I'd like to see her babies.
Best of Luck,

VOT,

Thanks for the compliments on her. It will be interesting to see what her babies look like.

That was the first time I posted here, and I'm not put off. I have been doing this long enough not to get discouraged by one persons comment. I also got some good advice on cleaning hard water stains and alternatives to normal water bowls, so that was well worth it (thanks to everyone that gave input).

Thanks again,
George

Nice female tho!!! SJM

PS Don't forget the macro lens at the next swap so we can get picts of those sperm plugs, they'll be a big hit on the forum!!!

glkherp Jan 23, 2004 09:34 PM

Hey now. Did I mention the pics are $25 a pop, it could take a half dozen or so to get the right shot... Just kidding, thanks for the comment on the snake. I will have to take a look at the hardware store this weekend. I will bring the camera the next show, I'm thinking about getting a table. If you get this before hand can you e-mail me your phone number.

...I put them in the flat end-cap available for 4" diameter PVC pipe available at the hard-ware store. They're about $1 each. I also use smooth round black granite river stones in the bowls to keep them heavy to avoid tipping and spills. I use ONLY the black ones because they're easy to disinfect. SJM

$1.00 each is cheap!!!!! I buy from HD.
I use them also.
SK told me to use them.

I use the PVC also. For larger snakes, the 4" ceramic bowls are good 16 oz. delis.
