Balled skin on toes..

tc_legacy Jan 22, 2004 08:59 PM

My female gecko always has problems shedding the skin off her toes. I have spent hours with quetips and warm water and usually manage to work the skin down to her toe tips. Unfortunately, during her last shed, I worked on her toes some but then forgot to continue. So, next shed, she has problems with her toes again and now the skin is balled up at the very tips of several toes and no matter what I do it won't come off. There is one toe tip she's already losing... Advice please? I've tried letting her soak in warm water, in warm water with a towel, etc...

Note: I bought this gecko last summer from some slightly unknowledgeable owners. She had already lost toe tips on most of her front toes. I've been able to keep anymore from coming off so far but I'm at a lost as to what to do now...

Put some antibiotic ointment on the unshed skin, and let it sit there for 15-30 minutes. Then take the moist q-tip and try to gently rub the unshed skin off. It helps to loosen and soften the skin, kind of like when you put it on a scab. Make sure you spray her humid hide daily, but even then, some leos have trouble shedding. Hope this helps,
