Hey I got a question for you guys.

Kyle Koski Jun 06, 2003 02:16 PM

Hey,
I thought collards were not sexual mature until 3 years (when they are full grown) Is this wrong? The reason I ask is my female just developed the bright orange on her and she is not even a year yet. Another thing thats got me wondering is one morning a week ago I wake up and these two are chasing each other (didn't have contacts on to see who was chasing who) they never have done this unless after the others food. Let me know.
THX> Kyle

p.s. Will are you still on here I haven't talked to you in a while?

BTW its summer vacation for me now so expect alot of pics!

If fed well, they can and will breed before their a year old. Most people like wait a while. If I have a large female, I will breed her the first year if I feel she is ready.

They can grow and become more colorful up until almost 3 when they are mature, but the orange your talking about is breeding colors, sounds as if the male was chasing her to mate , you know soon enough takes 3-4 weeks after breeding to lay !!!! LOL
Good Luck !! Eve

I had no intention on breeding them, I didn't hybernate them either. So this is a bit of a surprise. Is it a for sure thing (that she is gravid)? Should I dust her crikets on top of gutloading them? (don't they need more calcium to produce eggs?) She is still eating and quite plump so I guess I will see what happens. Sorry for all the questions just never researched breeding as I didn't think it would happen so soon, any answers much appreciated though. THX> Kyle (a possible grandpa )

p.s. should prolly start looking at incubators?

Klye,
Yeah, I'm still here but I don't get as much time as I use to.
Your lizard may become gravid and produce eggs but chances are they will be infertile if you didn't hibernate them. I once had some lizards breed successfully and they didn't hibernate.
Can't wait to see some pictures!
