Albino African clawed frog question

mpask2 Jan 22, 2004 10:57 PM

I have a frog that has a red sore on the edge of its mouth that is slowly getting larger. I have a 30 gallon tank with 2 albino frogs, 5 pacu, and 1 Oscar. Does anyone have any information on what this could possibly be and how to treat it? Thanks.

Mike

I WOULD MOVE THEM OUT OF OSCAR & PACU TANK FIRST !

I dont have any african clawed frogs, but I really dont recommend them being housed with these fish. I have oscars, and the pacu's are the same, they love to eat !
EVERYTHING ! I dont know how big or aggressive, yours are, but mine was 14 inches (the oscar).

Guppies are okay, because your frogs would eat them.

Anyway I would remove them into their own tank, his sore may be a BITE, thats getting infected ! Find out what you can put in his water for a wound thats infected.

Of course others may want to comment, and again I dont even keep these frogs, but I know Oscars !

You may want to ask Ginevive she keeps then and breeds them

Good luck hopoe he his sore gets better soon, :0(

Eve is right. You want to move the frogs to their own enclosure because it will only be a matter of time before they get eaten and with that sore, it could be an infection that's contageous. no one knows what it is but you just don't want to risk it.
I know this might be irrelevnt but I bought 4 turtles before and I kept them in the same enclosure and one of them had a mouth infection and just over night, my other turtles got it.

Please don't have your frogs in with oscars. Mine are "garbage can" fish and will aet anything you put in front of them! They also bite one another from time to time. So if they are in with the frogs, I'd suspect they'll bite them eventually!
You should put your frog in an isolation tank, a 10g tank would be good for an adult frog. This way you can prevent infection from any fish wastes or bacteria from the aquarium. I'd go to the Aquatic Frogs section on this website; there are some knowledgable ppl there!
