Thanks, but no. I wouldn't call it a red flame. The animal is actually orange. If I were trying to describe it and couldn't show someone a picture, I'd call it bright orange with a cream/white colored flame pattern. There is a very similar animal pictured in the new Rhacodactylus book that they call a Creamsicle, but I'm not positive if mine would qualify as the same thing.
Back to the term "red flame." That name is used to describe Crested Geckos of all different patterns and colors, usually by people who don't really know their Cresties that well...and in most instances, it's used incorrectly. Usually the names are misused by dealers who wish to make the animals more marketable. I don't necessarily blame them for trying to describe an animal, but Crested Geckos are too variable to buy without seeing a photo. Having said that, most dealers have so many Cresties housed in each cage, that it's impossible to take a photo of each one and be able to go back and identify that same animal later (like when you or I would want to buy it). In most cases the dealer doesn't know much at all about Crested Geckos, nor do they understand Crested Geckos phases/morphs/or whatever you want to call it.
To be honest, the scenario above is so common that the names don't really mean much to me at all. If the gecko looks good, by God I'll take it, but there's no way in a million years I'm going to buy a Crested Gecko sight unseen, relying on whatever name the dealer decides to call it.
Personally, I think Cresteds are too variable to have standardized names, and the scenario above is a good example as to why I feel that way. It would be like trying to group snowflakes into 6 different categories, even though they're all different. On the other hand, if you buy from a breeder, you may pay a few bucks more, but you actually get to see what you are buying. That's why all of my Cresteds have been purchased directly from the person who produced them.
Then again, I'm a picky SOB because I'm trying to put together nothing but top notch breeding groups.
Just my .02 (OK...more like a nickel)
