Weirdness! Questions please....

t-bo Jan 23, 2004 08:00 AM

Hia

I have a few lil questions for you... My new ball has just been going through a shed (first one).. I raised the humidity etc and she lost her skin last night.. Now, I wasnt able to check the skin for eye caps because it was all crumpled and twisted up, and also the head area seemed to be ripped.. Ive checked her eyes and they seem to be fine, shiny etc.. Would it be obvious if she had retained an eye cap ?

I did see the eyes go milky and then clear during shedding.. and they seem to be clear still now.. is all OK ?

Right, now the weird bit! By Ball also seemed to urinate last night, there was a patch of aspen that was wet and dark and looked like pee, however, there was also a small, hard, pebble type thing..

Ive taken a picture.. its about 13mm long x 7mm wide, looks kinda lightblue/grey and is hard. Can someone tell me what this is, is it bad.. ok ? Im not sure if this is just part of a dodgy poo...

Hey. I'm happy to say that everything you mention is completely normal. A retained shed on an eycap or anywhere else for that matter would be very obvious. It sounds like your snake shed fine. Also, the suprise he left you is completely normal. It's not poo at all, but something called urates. Snake poo looks like poo...brown, solid, overall "turd-like" in appearance. Urates are metabolic wastes analagous to your urine that snakes excrete in a sloid form. I've had large adult BPs excrete a ball of urates about the size of a golf ball. Urates are normally whitish/yellowish, and sometimes even cotain some blueish/greenish constituents, and hard as a rock. Sounds like you're doing great. Keep up the good work, and don't worry too much.
