How do you secure cage branches?

phiff1 Jan 23, 2004 09:07 AM

I have a carpet python that likes to perch. Any suggestions as to how to secure his cage furniture? Thanks in advance.

My Carpet loves to perch as well... The best thing I found if you have a wood cage is to go to Petsmart or the local petstore, and in the bird section, look for Manzanita branches. Some have screws with a wingnut installed that you can use to permanently attach it. Or you can make a bracket that will fit the wood to both sides of the cage and just like a V shape that the branch fits into, and then put a piece of wood above it.

Oh yeah...search online, Big Apple and LLL, plus many others have driftwood and manzanita for sale. You can always buy larger and trim it to fit. Right now I'm designing a cage for my coastal.. about 6 ft H x 4ft wide by 3ft deep. Plenty of things to climb on... I'll post picks later

Well, if its acrylic.. You can permanently attach the branches by drilling a hole in the acrylic, and screwing a screw into each end of the branch. I know a few other ways to do it, but they are all permanent...

If you want the branches to be removable, you can attach them using eyes and hooks. Since your cages are acrylic, you might need to pre-drill. Check out Greg Maxwell's cage assembly page, Step #10.
