A very angry dragon......

kdollva Jan 23, 2004 02:07 PM

I don't know what the deal is with my dragon. He started to shead about a week ago and became very aggressive with my boyfriend (we live together). He would puff up, flatten out and actually flick his tounge at him. And now - a week later and no more sheading - he is still the same way, and actually now becoming aggressive with me. I was holding him today and my boyfriend walked into the room, my dragon puffed up and when my boyfriend approached me, my dragon jumped out of my hand to attack. My dragon is 7 months old and never has acted this way towards us, in fact he was very loving and wanted to be held all the time. Is this just a phase or is this what I should expect from him going foward?

It sounds like your male dragon is reaching sexual maturity and has decided your boy friend is now a rival for your affections. I think he will calm down eventually.

they often go through an agressive period at the "teenage" time of sub-adulthood....usually they calm with regular handling in a month or two.

Your dragon is an alpha male and sees you are part of his group and the BF as part of the competition... sounds silly I know, but we have noticed that dragons will imprint to one individual more than others.

We have a alpha female that although I bought her, bath and feed her and clean her cage, she spent her days next to my BF's computer and he rarely left it until I was home. It did not take her long to figure out I was taking her "friend" away from her and she became hostile to me.

Today she is 2 years old and she not aggressive towards me anymore, just gives me these glaring stares and also drawn back as far as she can when I hold her and looks at me like I am an alien and have no business touching her or she will look for him in a panic to take her.......silly dragons

you could start a line of trained attack dragons? I would get that on video if I were you... LOL very interesting behavior. Maybe even americas funniest home video material... So you think your gonna move in on me do ya? LOL Sorry, I know it must be disturbing for you but you have to see the humor in it.... He'll only be young once mom....

I find it kinda funny but kinda not. My boyfriend is somewhat upset about it because he loves the dragon just as much as i do. The most interesting part of all of this is that my boyfriend is the one that feeds him all his food. You would think that you wouldnt want to "bite the hand that feeds you" but I guess my dragon feels attention is more important that a feeding lol! I think that you guys are right....if I pick the dragon up without my boyfriend there, he is calm and loving as usual - as soon as he walks into the room BANG -- a very angry dragon!

some times Dex finds a "not so good" place to try and sleep like behind the toilet.... so I move him, Now I handle him every day and feed him ... but if he is sleeping he gets VERY ticked off at having to wake up and be moved

any other time and he's fine with beeing picked up.

actually he does not have a beard at all. we thought maybe it was his "night" pants because they are black with stripes on them, but even in his regular clothes the dragon reacts to him. actually its funny because he is watching my bf like a hawk....if he even thinks he hears him, he goes on guard. i guess if it doesnt work out between me and my bf, i know i can always turn to my dragon to be a good protector Who said dogs make good guards for the house.....i think i should start the trend of dragons scaring the mail man!
