Panther with an eye problem...

tommycats Jan 23, 2004 03:13 PM

I aquired this baby Nosey Be several weeks ago and it came in great shape though missing half its tail which is why I got it for only $50.00. Lately, within the last week or so it wants to keep its eye shut all the time as though its infected or something is in it. Whenever it does open this eye pictured it keeps doing that strange movement with its eye where it bulges a bit as if to try and clean it. If there is a term for that I would love to know it as well? My girlfriend has contacts and I figure that if the solution is safe for her and everyone elses eyes that wears contacts can I use this solution to try and free up what may be in the eye of my panther. Any suggestions would be great!

Thank you - Thomas

I would take it to the vet. It may be as simple as flushing the eye but it wouldn't hurt to let a vet make sure it's nothing else. Don't put your girlfriends drops in. It's made for human eyes not reptiles..

try giving it a really good misting with hot water(should feel warm with misting not cold) the cham may beable to clean its eye out with water.

Thanks jusmebabe and chamsrcool, I posted a pic at this link: http://gallery.pethobbyist.com/index.pl?photo=123183
and as you will see Legendcham responded, I responded back and listed the supplements I use. Is there something out there that is better that I should be using?

Thanks again - Thomas

Go to Cricketfood.com and Get a bottle of their liquid vitamins for Chameleons. It seems to me as if you have a vitamin deficiency, and this vita-herp product was created just for Chameleons By A chameleon owner and Veteranian and it has proven itself to keep eye problems form occurring

If he has both eyes shut, you may want to look into Upper Respiratory Infection. This looks like a sign of URI, but I'm no vet. You gotta figure that if he does not open his eyes, he will not be able to eat. If he can't eat, then eventually he will perish.

In my experience, this only gets worse if you don't treat it. Does he happen to gape alot now, or make sneezing sounds?

Hi tessai

It is only the one eye that is in the pic, the other is fine. I never have notice any type of gaping or sneezing. If you could read this response that is posted at the pic here from Legendcham: http://gallery.pethobbyist.com/index.pl?photo=123183
This is what I am going to attempt within the next hour. Let me know what you think?

Thanks a lot - Thomas
