Microscopes

Sohni Jan 23, 2004 06:03 PM

If anyone here does their own fecal analysis, could you steer me towards a decent microscope, reasonably priced? Monocular is fine--binocular would be great, but I don't think I can afford it.

Thanks to all!

If you only need 10x magnification get a jewlers loupe. You know the kind for checking diamonds. They are like 15 bucks

I need higher magnification, up to 400x, I think. Thanks for the idea, though.

Another potential source is medical and veterinary students, who often sell their 'scopes at the end of their senior year.

What really sucks is that I'm eyeing that binocular microscope and I really can't afford it. I'm using an old American Optical (army surplus) that I paid $450 15 years ago. That binocular is REALLY nice and you definately can't beat the price. Needless to say that page is bookmarked.

Which binocular one are you looking at? I'm sure I can't afford it, but it would be nice...

The one for 370 something is a very good deal but when you add the case (80 bucks) it is steep but very much worth it. It would last me a lifetime.

Check out a seller on eBay, precision*world, who lists over 300 microscope items from $60 to $1000. No experience with this seller but good feedback is shown. Search for this item number, 2587479348, then click on "Visit this seller's eBay Store!"

Check local colleges/universities or research labs; might have out-dated scopes (to them) sitting around collecting dust.

Good Luck!

They are great! I got my binocular microscope from them two years ago for $200.00. I think, I can't remember if that is what I really paid or what I told my husband I paid :P. Kind of like my "$75.00" holdback red flame male bearded dragon (actual price $200.00 plus shipping.)

Oh what a tangled web we weave....
