My first Horned Frog...

dasnakeguy Jan 23, 2004 07:31 PM

I was wondering if some of you can post pictures of your horned frog tanks? Right now I have him set up with a sand/potting soil subtrate, a small heat lamp, water bowl, and a hide. I would like to improve his home and want some ideas. Also is it normal for them to just sit in the same hole for hours/days? He just moves for food and not much just when it crawls in front of his face or till I drop it in front of him. He's still a cool lil guy just wish he were more active.

I built this. It houses my Pac Man frog & my Dwarf Pyxie frog. There is contact paper on the divider, so they can't see each other. Niether frog vocalizes at all, so they haven't a clue they have a neighbor. I use EcoEarth, have fake plants & a water dish large enough for them to soak in. I have an amphibian UV bulb overhead. They are both currently hibernating, so you can't really see them in this pic.
To answer your question, your frog is unlikely to be very active. My pacman can go days w/o moving & now that she's estivating, she hasn't moved in over a month!

Nice tanks you have there! Simple, but nice to look at.

The tadpoles are getting their legs! I will try to get a good pic of them in the next few days, but they are so hard to photo with my poor-quality camera!

Cute frog you have there. They really aren't that active as a rule; if yours were to become active, it would probably be a sign of bad temperatures or something else wrong with your tank. if your frog is calm and digging himself in, then your setup must be perfect!
