question on sexing

lanietx Jan 23, 2004 08:42 PM

hi
i apologize for revisiting this topic.

i know the info i am looking for is in the archives, but i am having no luck at finding it. perhaps i am not using the "search" option correctly. maybe i am just impatient!

anyway.....
a while back ago the subject of how to tell male from female came up. someone posted some very nice close up pics. there was also some detailed writing on the subject.

i am questioning if one of my females might be a male. if someone has the link to those images, i would greatly appreciate it!

feel free to email me if necessary

thanks so much!

Easy, look on their underside near tail, if it is male it will have a v shaped line of pours... these don't develop until a few months after birth... supposedly you can see them if you use a magnifying glass

females have a V-shaped "area" that could look like preanal pores to the untrained eye..

when i was holding libby tonite, i noticed more of a bulge on the tail side of the vent. she/he (?) was not wanting to cooperate so that i could get a good look, but i am almost certain i saw the V mark. i was thinking that is how u determined if it was a male.

i tried to look at jaws underbelly, she definately does not have that V.

well s#%&!
i only wanted females!
there is no way i could ever get rid of libby. she/he is my favorite gecko. i can't believe i haven't noticed before now. i do usually hold my geckos in a very dim lit room and i guess i never bothered to look!

he is a rainwater albino, i have posted his pic here b4.

at times i accidently call him "rain"
so i am thinking of changing his name to "reign"
pronounced the same, but more fitting.

i can't think of a name for one of my new girls from kelli, so i might call her libby.

i think it is sorta weird to switch names, but darn it, i want a gecko named libby ! LOL
