Here to learn...

JDBLACKDOG Jan 23, 2004 08:50 PM

Hello All,
I've always found "Chucks" an interesting and beautiful species. But I'm also learning about "Uros" here? I apprieciate the frankness issued here about Uros but would rather see it on the Uro forum. Hard to learn without your input. Honest input. If you feel a little slighted, so do I. I'm here to learn.... about what happened in "Uro husbandry in the 80's" as well. I apologize to those of you on this "forum" for the interruption. Please continue as I'm HERE to lean about "Chucks".

Some of those people are the most intelligent breeders of chuckwallas, as well as Uro's, Geckos, Collareds and other species...Feel slighted? No I don't. I feel I know a forum with a diverse field of knowledge that I can count on when it comes to questions regarding other species. I don't have to wander as a newbie (so-to-speak) into a different forum where I may be treated as on outcast.

So...if you come to the chuck forum, be prepared to hear a bit about a few other species as well. We all like desert reptiles, and will discuss them here. Sit back and prepare yourself for the chuckwalla/desert ig/collared/Squirrel and perhaps soon, the red-headed agama page. We all know each other and respect each other opinion, and love to share with each other.

I don't think you will ever find many complaining here about off topic banter. You have come into a great group of people that are like best friends who may have never met. It's a great group of people.

If you feel like you have to wade through garbage to learn about chucks perhaps you've come to the wrong place. Try a google search. If you want to share in the genuine enthusiam of Chuckwallas and the American Southwest, as well as get to some great people and the animals they care dearly about...you've come to the right place. People like people who are like themselves. Search the Chuck archives, and see how many topics are from people who feel slighted. They are few and far between.

Don't take this wrong...I hope you stick around and dig in for a while. Perhaps you have the answer to the next question that may be posed. Maybe we can help you out...lots of chuck keepers here. If this seemed harch, it is because I felt as if your presence was "non genuine." Big deal...you are free to post here as are we. I don't think you will find the type of argumentative people on this forum that will get into aimless banter over who is right or who is wrong about what...it don't work like that here. Try to start a problem...you will be ignored..simple as that.

I just wanted to welcome you...not to rise up to challenge your very first post I've ever seen. I plan to post my chuck pics, as well as anything I may learn this year. Mostly pics though, as chucks aren't my only passion. I may even sneak in a chuckwalla pic too. Why? I know that some of the chuck breeders here like them, and don't have the time to forum jump for specifics. Call it a favor it you will.

They way I look at these forums is mostly as a means of communication between friends of similar interests. I don't really care what the topic of the forum is. The archives are so deep, I can fill my head up with facts and caresheets til I'm blue in the face...probably on every forum. I come here to share with my peers...Period. Until they tell me to stop (they, being the Chuckwalla forum Regulars) I will keep posting here.

Try doing a search if you are really here to learn, then address a particular question you feel has gone unanswered.

John Eddington (collared lizard enthusiast)

Thanks John,
I appriciate the welcome. I will be listening , as well as alot of reading (Alot to catch up on!). I know there are people who post here who have a tremendous wealth of knowledge (most of it being first-hand).I'll admit... my first love is my uros... (Don't tell anyone!) but after seeing Doug's(Douglas Dix) "Chucks"... those are pretty sharp. I don't have any...won't get any until I'm ready. My uro's take most of my studing time. Maybe later this year.
Again Thanks,
Jason

I envy your collection, and really admire you have some ornatus...probably the finest of species (in my opinion). I was shocked when I first seen nice colored pictures of them. I really thought I'd get them until I showed my wife...I was hoping for a, "Oh cool that is awesome, are you gonna get one?" Instead it was, "They are freaky...I don't like their heads and tails." LOL I knew I might as well not even tell her prices after that comment :P

I have my hands full with collared lizards. I have one chuckwalla and one yarrow spiny since DVL talked me into it LOL He should be a salesman. I am very pleased with my two new lizards from him though. The chuck is a welcome addition to my tank of cricket crunching bottomless pits.

One nice thing is that chucks are easier in my opinion than uros. I will e-mail you a care sheet which is pretty good. It is pretty comprehensive. Read it through then feel free to ask any questions. There is a lot of great people here on this forum and we are also learning so if you have something that works well for you please let us know. You will have to excuse our off topic stuff as we all have become friends through this forum so we do talk about other stuff also. Feel free to bring up any uro stuff if you like. Even stuff about your dog is fair game here. Tom

Whoa.. thats alot of info! Thanks ... My first post here was purely out of fustration. I have been reading...Hopeing.. to learn on the other forum. Doug,Lindsay, and Bert L. have all been gracious. But labotomies to find out what's in thier heads would be asking too much! Hence... I'm here. We've discussed supporting those who do "The Work"... those that don't.. don't deserve the answers. "YOU"..All of those here..don't owe me anything..But "I" owe Tom an apologee. I hope this post explains my thoughts to you.
P.S. Johne & Eve.. on a lighter note.. I'll post a pic of a "Squirrel" as soon as I can catch one! Gett'n to old to climb anymore!lol Jason

I'm sick of seeing squirrel pics on a lizard forum...ha, ha ,ahhhh. sorry eve. I was only kidding. Squirrel pictures are find, but personallyl I find the "squirrel bite" pictures more amusing (don't kill me).

Welcome to the amusing chuckwalla forum.

Some might say I know quite a bit about chucks but really I just watch & try to remember what they did!! You have come to the right place---------- any questions you have should already have an answer or opinion here. Also-- search the archives-------- its all there somewhere!!

Ask a few questions--- we need someone to wake us up from time to time!!!!

Thanks you two,
Eve... didn't David Bowie write a song back in the 80's?... something about his spine out of place? Thats how I describe Big Momma & Lil' Sadaam.Anyhow.. I can only have four pics at a time?!?!! But here's another "Chuck?" His name is Spot. T.Greb's info was great... some of it was more than I need, but it's great to have for reference! Oh... that song was "Suffer Jet City"..I think?

again. One benifit of doing it all TOO early hahahahhahaha LOL
