I got the new tank, and he went into brumation only a couple weeks later, so I didn't get a good look at how he reacted to his new home, but now that he's coming out of it, I think the way it's designed may be making it hard for Sydney to identify who or what is coming into his tank. . The tank is top opening, and about 25" tall, set on top of a tall desk which makes it hard for 6' 1" me to reach in sometimes, plus the top is designed like a glass fish tank top, so there's only about a 5-6" opening. I think that since he can basically only see a large body and hands coming down on him, it's scaring him. If I open the tank he gets sort of cautious, and then if I pet him on the side or pretty much touch him any other way, he'll gape at me. He is fine once he's out of the tank and on the ground or on me though. Do you think he will get used to it? His old tank was a standard 40 gallon breeder, so it was the same floor space but only 18" tall, and the screen top came all the way off, so he could basically get a better view of me in that tank. Do you think I should just get a different tank? If I were going to change tanks, I think I would build a front opening tank, and possibly build two so that I can have a pair of nice stacking cages...one for Sydney and one for my mali uro.
Anyone else have a problem with a certain cage design blocking the beardie's view of it's owner?
