Bearded Help

Mike_ny Jan 23, 2004 09:55 PM

I have several bearded dragons for which i care for but one in particular is giving me a problem. I picked him up a few months after birth and noticed he couldnt use his legs like my others he would almost drag them. Its been about a year and he cant sit up and its like he drags all of his limbs. He is a great eater he just cant run normally his legs stay straight when he moves. When i take him out he flattens out is not comfortable in my hand, so i put him on the floor to let him run around but he just leans on his arms and after awhile it looks as though hes hyperventilating and his beard flares up and he opens his mouth wide its a pretty scary sight. I dont feel like im helping the porr animal which i thought i could do originally when i took him in from his previous owner. I took him to the local pet shop and vet but neither provided anything i could rely on information wise. Is there a place where animals can get donated where they are cared for because i dont want to give him up just to someone else i would like to see him cared for i just dont know what to do for him. Ive given him warm baths, increased calcium for the bones as per pet stores directions.

Any responses are appreciated thanks everyone

What are the temps?
What kind of UVB source?
What kind of diet and supplements?

It kind of sounds like MBD but it's hard to tell. Provide the info above and it will help us a lot to help your beardie out.

You had this dragon for a full year before deciding to find out why his legs are paralized?

It sounds like it could be a number of things but very hard to tell without information about his care. From what little information you gave it could be MBD, a birth defect or leg paralization due to injesting too large a prey item.

You did mention taking him to a vet, but didn't get any useful information. Was this vet experienced with reptiles and bearded dragons? What information did he give you?

More details about your husbandry would be helpful to assist you however i would recommend seeing a qualified reptile vet specializing in bearded dragons if possible.
