Need help taming a G. nigrolineauts, cage setup too

skink Jun 06, 2003 03:39 PM

I would really appreciate any suggestions from anyone that would help to get my G. nigrolineatus(Male, I think?)to calm down so when I attempt to pick him up while doing some cage cleaning he doesn't take off at full speed into his cage wall. I would really appreciate any help.
Also, I know what their habitat looks like in Africa for the most part but could use some suggestions on making a more natural looking habitat. Thanks, Brian

It is hard to tame down wild plated lizards but with lots of handling they should calm down. One way I pick up my giant plated lizard is I cover her with with a towel then scoop her up and put her on my lap then take off the towel. She will stay there for awhile and then might wander around the room. Make sure any way your lizard could escape the room is blocked off. As for enclosures here is some pics of mine:

I used dirt from outside on one side and playsand on the other. If your plated is a burrowing type then you should put in more dirt. The rocks are just peices of slate from my backyard piled on each other.
If you have anymore questions then please ask!
Adam
