What's wrong with my FBT?

asdf Jan 23, 2004 10:50 PM

I have had my fire bellied toad for over two years. He has been in good health and eating normally until recently. He barely eats one cricket a week, which I assumed was due to the winter months. However, he has been shedding frequently (at least once a week). I constantly find shedded skin in the large water container. Also, while watching him, the fbt kept opening his mouth like he was ribbiting and some "foamy bubbles" were coming out. What's wrong with him??
Please help! Thanks!

I don't really know, but my cousin had a frog who was kind of like that. The frog stopped eating, and they found out there was some twist in his intestines. You can try and get rid of it by bathing them in hot water (that didn't work in my cousin's case, it died). I am not saying what is wrong with it, I am just making suggestions.

HOPE THIS HELPS!!

Is there anything like gravel in the tank that he could have swallowed accidentally? This could cause an intestinal blockage which could lead to unwillingness to eat. That, or maybe parasites? I'd take a fecal sample to the vet to rule that out.
If there is anything in the tank besides food that could have been swallowed, I'd keep him in a simple "hospital tank" with paper towel as a substrate and some water, and see if he passes anything.
