shopaholic Jan 24, 2004 12:59 AM

Hi gang: I looked up the safe plant list and the unsafe plant list and I'm not sure if I missed it or not, but does anyone know if these Three types of plants are OK

1. Chinese Lucky Bamboo
2. Epiphytic Spanish Moss(living)
3. Ficus P.(putz! I can't remember the rest of the name)Its got big pear shaped leaves.

Thanks! Maggie

The lucky bamboo is safe but a poor choice because it gives primarily vertical surfaces and your cham needs more horizontal.

Spanish moss is a poor choice because of the ingestion hazard.

There are a zillion spp of Ficus. The most common is F. benjamina. The branches are fine if you're talking about a 5-6' high plant. But the smaller ones have branches that are too thin. F. alli is a good choice.

I'm currently having good luck using 3/4" diameter sisal rope for climbing in addition of Pothos, shefflera & F benjamina for foliage.

Hi: thanks for the reply. The lucky bamboo I have is curled and stiff. It has quite a bit of horizontal perches. I won't use the spanish moss. Is ingesting a concern because of toxicity or is it a concern due to impaction or both. The ficus variety I saw had beautiful big paddle shaped leaves with not much of a stem. I'll try to get the rest of the scientific name. Thanks so much for your help!! Maggie
