Help regarding albino breeding..

cactuskent Jan 24, 2004 04:59 AM

Hi, after consulting the family, we are very set on purchasing several 100% het royal pythons, breeding, keeping some offspring selling some offspring. My father is more than happy to fund this for me(the 100% hets, food, viv's etc) providing in a few years time we see the profit.
I want to know, will this work? Don't get me wrong ,i don't intend to be the next raplh davis, i just want to breed, and sell the hets and albinos produced. how much profit are we looking at(from both sides of the spectrum) Is this fool proof really, or is it likely we could fall flat on our faces and out of pocket?is there a market for small time albino breeders?(Baring in mind i live in England) any information would be great, thanks

The price of albinos will most certainly drop, but I do believe that one can make a profit in the endeavor for many more years to come. My personal prediction (just a PREDICTION mind you) is that the retail value of the albino will remain $2000 or above (on average) for another 2 years or so. However, inside of 5 years I expect the average retail value to be on the order of $1000. But I personally predict one should be able to get several hundred dollars for albinos even into the next decade. Even this is profitable. The higher contrast individuals will command the better prices. Understand that small breeders must sell their animals for significantly less than the listed price advertised by well known breeders, perhaps on the order of 60-75% their listed price. That being said, perhaps you should work on contacting a smaller breeder to find these better prices, as should anyone else looking to begin working with the albino ball python.
