Can I use Sand as a substrate for my ratsnake?

snake_love Jan 24, 2004 10:02 AM

I would like to use either Zoomed's Reptisand, or T-rex's Bone-aid calci sand in my ratsnakes enclosure. He is a Black or a greenish ratsnake... The guy I bought it from said that it was a greenish, but others have told me he looks like a black rat... either way, I was hoping to use sand in his enclosure, but I am worried about impaction or respiratory infection. What do you guys think?

I'd give him something that's more fun to burrow in... carefresh or aspen works great.

"The serpent crams itself with animal life that is often warm and vibrant, to prolong an existence in which we detect no joy and no emotion. It reveals the depth to which evolution can sink when it takes the downward path and strips animals to the irreducible minimum able to perpetuate a predatory life in its naked horror."
