Hi- No normal fluorescent lights do not give off UVB light rays. You need to buy a special UVB bulb at a reptile store. There are great deals online, you will save money. Also depending on what you are using it for the MV (mercury vapor) bulbs give off the most UVB and UVA light and also put off heat all in one bulb. I use the MV bulbs on my cages. I would recommend the Zoomed powersun 100w or Big Apple Capture The Sun 100w flood. For the fluorescent light you will need a 5.0 or higher bulb (UVB rating). Hope this helps!

I was just wondering...i have a 5.0 uvb tube.

I was looking at Mv bulbs but alwas thought they gave off too much heat.

I have a jacksons chameleon would it be too hot?

Or do you think one would work for my anoles?(they are in a 38 reptarium too)

Hi-

They are HOT but you can adjust the heat, by moving the bulb off the cage more. The MV bulbs can penetrate UVB up to 6 feet down from the light source, so you don't have to worry about the UVB light not being effective, like with fluorescent bulbs. So I would say they would work wonders on your Jackson's and anoles. Hope this helps!
