You can, and the only rules which apply are derived from a more thorough knowledge of the boas, your responsibilities as a breeder and the future of the Boa in captivity than what you now have.
I mean you no disrespect, you have admitted that you are an entry level boa keeper. I do, in fact, applaud you for at least asking... Since you lack the perspective of experience to judge the wisdom of crossbreeding your Boas consider simply this..
Your crossbreed boas will only be worth a fraction of what CB Suriname or even nice Common boas would sell for. And once you produce crossbreeds, your boas are crossbreeds, whereas if you take the time to get good pairings of animals which share a genetic heritage you will have more valuable stock and if after learning more you still want to produce intergrades you can do so..
Good luck..

You never experience life until you have kids..then you realize what you should have done rather then what you did do
Ok correct me if I am wrong, here is where I think this becomes muddy. And mind you I think the boas known as "Hogg Island" boas are different and amazingly beautiful animals. The thing is where did they come from? There is no such Island as Hogg Island. Someone PLEASE get a map and show me ONE island that is named Hogg Island outside of Guyana. I dont think you will find one. What you will find is a place called "Hogg Isle" these are a row of smaller islands or "keys" there are 13 of them named the Cayos Cachinos Islands. I know of only two of the islands they are the "Cochino Grande" and the "Cochino Pequeño" or for the non spanish people the Big and Little. Im not sure of the others or if they are even named at all! So how can you call a snake a Hogg Island boa if there is no Hogg Island. Heres what I find interesting because there are some VERY opinionated people that think you should not cross locality specific animals even from the same family or species. Now I think this is probably a good rule of thumb in most instances. However how far do you go with this. If you find out that your Hogg is from the big island and you have another from the small island I think some people would say hey dont breed those together even though they look identical and are the same snake. I think that there needs to be a litte more learning of the so called " Hogg Island" boas. Until someone goes to the cayos cachinos finds a couple of boas does blood work on them then goes to Honduras and does bloodwork on them then the surrounding countries and does blood work on them comparing the DNA to see how closely they are all related. Until someone actually does this I am not sure they will ever find their own classification. Sad but true. Maybe Dave Barker will do it if we fund him maybe we can all chip in a hundred bucks for the study. Who knows. All I am saying is I talked with an importer of boas and was asking about the "Hogg Island" boas he was selling this was about 1990 or so Well he says those boas are actually from Honduras we are just calling them Hogg Island boas because they LOOK different FROM colombians and need to give them a different name to distinguish them. Most of the boas called Hogg Islands are not from the actual islands he told me but from a certain place in Honduras where they collected alot for the pet trade. As far as I know there are very few if any REAL HONEST TO GOODNESS I GOT THESE STRAIGHT FROM THE CAYOS CACHINOS ISLANDS Hogg Isle boas. I think Matt Turner had some though. But again like I said I could be wrong I have never been there I have never seen the boas in the wild in person.I think someone with that knowledge should step forward and really educate us. Then we would know for sure if these boas in captivity are indeed are island boas or a mainland variation of common boa masked under the name "Hogg Island" because they look different then common boas.
You translated part of the island names, those parts that mean big and little but what does cochino mean in spanish? If I remember my spanish correctly, cochino means pig or hog. Hence the name hogg island boa.
most of the babies will come down with a serious case of freezer burn.
