Kane heat mats (opinions wanted)

Antegy Jan 24, 2004 11:26 AM

To those who use Kane heat mats,

I have an 18"x18" Kane heat mat in my burm's Vision cage (the 6'x3' version). I have it located directly under the lamp shroud; which is fitted with a low wattage compact flourescent bulb in an aluminum lamp dome (this light is used simply for providing light - not heat). This setup seems to be working quite well for me, and seems to make sense to me to have the warm end of the cage oriented at the same end that is illuminated (thereby mimicking a warm basking spot in the sun, for example). So far I like this setup. The heat mat is completely waterproof, washable, durable, and is thermostatically controlled.

Recently I have been reading about the use of radiant heat panels and the pro/cons afforded by them. Honestly, I would like to continue using my current setup - but if there is enough incentive to make the change I just may bring myself to part with the finances needed to do so.

Could you please post your experiences with Kane heat mats and tell what you do or don't like about them.

Thanks very much,
- Mark

Hi Mark,

Kane heat mats are all I use in my cages I love them.
I mount the 18" x 18" Kane mat under my 3/4" wood cages.
This way I do not need a rheostat with the mat, as the mat is not in the cage. Also using them this way you do not need to clean the mat. The 3 Kane mats that are in my 3 cage unit have been on for over 6 years now 24/7 and they are still
working like they are new.

Take care,
Tom McCarthy
