pretty skittish snakes, especially when they are young. He will calm down somewhat as he gets older. He enjoys burrowing in the substrate, but make sure that you have enough small hide boxes for him, also. Keep handling him for a few minutes every day and it will help him to calm down faster, but make sure that you watch out for him to leap out of your hand.

my tangerine dream honduran does this too. he is 6 months old and still skiddish but is calming down with handling. i have read pueblan's are very skiddish. i tried to hold one at a reptile show and it was very fast. also remember he/she is in a new enclosure so will be nervous becasue of that too. give him a few days to get used to things before you try to handle him.

Pueblans are great captive snakes but they are one of the most skittish milksnakes out there. The babies are just insane, and a few days aren't going to make one bit of difference. I used to breed them, and I handled the babies as little as possible. My adults were calmer but still not calm (no biting or musking, just kind of squirmy). Your Honduran will probably be the same way. Hondos are usually nuts too and like Puebs do very well in captivity.

When I said "give him a few days"... I was refering to letting him get used to a new enviroment. First he's at the breeders, then a show, (or where ever) then in a little cup to bring him home. I know it will be at least a year for a milk to get somewhat calm.

I probably thought you meant that, but spouted off anyway. Handling doesn't do much good with young Pueblans. Still a great milk to keep though.

Thanks for you reply. My honduran is going into sheding. I know they are very jumpy now. At the time I bought him he was real calm. But the day after I brought him home I tried to hold him..he was very jumpy. I do hope he keeping calming down as he gets bigger. I've decided I don't want another milk though. Don't get me wrong. I love my honduran "Zorro" but after handling him, then my corns and python, they are just to jumpy.
