i was told the care of a rat snake is the same as the care for a corn snake, is this true?

Corns are just one of the many kinds of North American Ratsnakes.
If you enjoy keeping corns, their close relatives will also be very enjoyable for you, I'm sure. Some of the ratsnakes from other continents have some additional care requirements, but the North American Rats are pretty much just as easy as corns. :D

Duffy gave you a very good answer with what you told us. I am sure that he could give you an even better answer if you could tell him what kind of rat snake you have.

By the way, another name for a Corn Snake is a Red Rat Snake.
