Getting my mom a beardie for her birthday...

beardielover13 Jan 24, 2004 01:16 PM

My mom's birthday is coming up soon and I plan on getting her a beardie. She knows all about their care because I started the family with the first beardeds. She takes care of them when I go to my cousin's house for a week and when I am gone for longer than that. So, I plan on getting her a beardie or a pair for her birthday. It's in April. Does anyone suggest any breeders that would deliver like the day after (her b-day is on easter)?

Another question- Are celery leaves okay for beardies?

Also- Would anyone come to a herp show in Eastern Washingotn?

The thing is, for the animal to arrive the day after easter, it would have to be shipped on easter. Since easter is on a sunday, I don't think that UPS/FedEx/USPS will be open, and they might not even be open the monday after easter, either.. So you may have to wait until a few days after easter. That's my guess, anyways.

As for celery leaves. They are fine, but don't make a great staple. They can be offered occasionaly mixed with some better greens, though, no problem.

You could have the beardie shipped on Thursday and arrive on Friday before Easter. Or you can give her the cage and set up on Easter and have the beardie arrive a couple days later. I like to have the set up run for a couple of days before I get the animal so I can see how the temps are and do the fiddling around with the set up without the animal in it. The one thing that will prohibit shipping when you want is the weather, most breeders won't ship until it is warm enough.

I would not rec. getting a "pair" unless your mom wants to have two set ups. Male beardies will fight each other, a male and female will not work because the male will stress the female trying to breed all the time, and you have no guarantee that two females will get along later in life. Beardies do great by themselves.

just keep in mind, most breeders I know will not ship when temps fall below 40F
