interesting dipso behavior

hairijuana Jan 24, 2004 05:45 PM

First off I'd like to say hi. I recently aquired two desert iggies, and I've found all the info on the forum very helpful. Recently I've noticed some funny behavior in them.
The male is the more skittish, and it's common for him to run into his tunnel/cave. The female doesn't mind people. When I reach into the cage to get the food bowl or water bowl, the male runs into his tunnel, and the female pushes sand forward at the tunnel opening with her front feet.
Is this some noted behavior I haven't seen mentioned? It's almost as though she's protective of him to. She'll push the sand until I pick her up. Maybe she has eggs buried in there? I haven't had these guys more than 2 weeks, I can't imagine eggs so soon...
It's very interesting behavior, and one I've never noticed with any other species. Any thoughts or comments would be much appreciated. Thanks
Harry

I have had DI's for several years and have not seen one covering up the entrance for another. But--- tunneling & pushing sand is what they do best except for running 100 MPH! Thats intersting info.

I have the opposite: My female runs from me but the male lets me pick em up.

If your female is dramatically thinner then she layed eggs..

DIs are a great lizard to observe
