Robyn... no topsoil available

jack7777766 Jan 24, 2004 06:42 PM

I went to about 6 places including home depot, and none have topsoil, they all say its not in season, and wont have till spring.
None of the garden center had vermiculite either nor did that home depot but I think another home depot might.

All of them did have potting soil though and im pretty sure home depot had sand.
I was wondering if you knew of any other mix for a substrate I could use that doesnt involve topsoil that would be good.
Im going to try a relatives gardener to see if he could get some but otherwise my uro is gonna stay on newspaper till spring, and I really want to put him on dirt.

Thanks
Jack

I was having the same troubles at the big retail stores. The local garden center had Topsoil though, so i got lucky. You might want to even try an agricultural supplies place if you have any nearby. If possible just do what many have done and dig up some dirt from outside? Not possible up here in Canada in the winter though hehe.

Nah I cant dig up dirt from outsidem the ground is frozen with a little ice and snow on it, makes it a little hard LOL

And I already tried all the stores I could think of or find around here.

I had the same problem and I am in the Chicago area. The problem I had with Home Depot is they have topsoil but it is in thier outside garden center and they wouldn't let me go out there. I went to Lowes (I'm not sure if they are national) and they let me go into the outdoor garden center with a big kart and told me to have fun. Everything was frozen but I got topsoil, vermiculite, and play sand. I even picked up some decoritive stones to use for basking sites. They had tons of topsoil on pallets that are frozen together that I had to break apart but I got a couple bags. I currently have my been setup the same as I would my uro cage and so far so good. I'm going to give it another week or two before I change my Uro's setup
