Who has the heaviest pit?

snaker Jan 24, 2004 07:05 PM

A bit of a new kind of challenge, usually snakes are measured and described in terms of length. With pits being some of the heaviest bodied North American snakes, who has the most massive as opposed to longest pit. Also what ssp usually carries the most mass. As this is a family forum try not to make too many colorful length vs girth cracks LOL.

Seems like this question pops up on occasion. I have a northern pine that measured 8'3" and weighed 9 lbs. 8 oz's last November. He was hatched in '99. I can probably get him over the 10 lb. mark by the end of this coming summer. Now he is one big colubrid, but I had a 7' 6" Indigo many years ago that was a much stouter animal. Big pits are awesome, but they still come up a bit short against a big male Indigo.
