Scared the Poop out of Morgana today!

dextar Jan 24, 2004 07:08 PM

Once again these animals have amazed me!

I was handling her only for practical purposes. I gave her a warm soak in my critter transport cage, and giving her a shot of pedialyte. The only reason I am doing this is because of her lethargy at the moment. I think she's just tired from laying those eggs. As a result of all this lethargic behavior, she really isn't visiting her water park.

Anyways after all this is done I put her back in her home, and she wouldn't willingly leave my hand to her branch, so I kind of moved her near her water bowl, where she wiggled to get out. So I dropped her off there. She then turned around and hid behind her branch and proceded to do her business.

I was amazed because, it is not exactly a stroll through the park for them to be handled by a giant beast, let alone be taken off their branch. She could have very easily done her business while I was holding her, but she held it in. I could even feel her stomach muscles contracting, and I didn't know what it was. Now I do!

Has anyone here ever become a toilet for an MHD before? Of all the times I have handled her I she never has released anything. This is odd for me because a lot of other reptiles I have encountered normally do this (amphibians as well!).

Cheers,
Derek

As a rule I would say they are unlikely to poo on you. I have had a female or baby now and again who would excrete a slimy liquid on me when they didn't want to be handled. I have always thought this was a warning similar to a snake musking you or a toad peeing on you.
