Okay...once long, long ago in a state about 1200 miles away from where I live now I worked for a reptile wholesaler/importer. Well, a local breeder once ca,e in with something I couldn't identify. Being familiar with about 95% of North American, Asian, South American and European colubrids (that were commercially available) I scratched my head and asked "okay, so what the hell is that?" The breeder laughed and said he had a large display cage and this was an accidental byproduct of housing different species together. These were baby yellow rat bull snake hybrids. Well these were very cool looking babies and they all sold within a week. I never got a chance to see the adults but I am sure they were cool looking.

So here is my question:

Having been out of the hobby for some time (lack of space) I recently caught a baby male yellow rat snake...since these guys are considered "junk snakes" (I have no I dea why accept for how common they are...I always thought yellow ratsnakes are under rated for beauty...there are a lot more desired species that are butt ugly in comparison). I am considering getting myself a female bull to try to breed him with in an effort to replicate this hybrid from my youth. I guess there is some sentimental quality in my effort. So to those who have bred Elaphe obsoleta ssp. to Pituophis c. sayi...did it require a swapping males or was it pretty strait forward colubrid breeding...just placinf the female Pituophis in the male Elaphe's cage after brumation?
