Is this weird or am I reading too much into it?

I got 4 corns (2 males and 2 females) in October of 2002 and put them all in one tank.I know by a year they should be seperated. However, I never did it and they are a year and a half now.Two weeks ago I finally seperated the males from the females (2 per tank - I was afraid they would mate before the females were ready. Yes, I know it could of been too late)- the snakes are in my class and I have limited space because I also have 4 beardeds in my class and two other corns. Back to my question- ever since I split them they have been going crazy trying to get out of the tank and watching the other tank. One of the girls on several occasions stares at the other tank with her mouth open like she is going to eat and stays that way for a while. Do they miss each other? I know everyone says they don't have feelings, but when they were in the tank together all 4 always slept together. Should I do anything or does anyone have any ideas.

Thanks for any ideas! Brian

My thoughts are that it is coming on breeding time and they are 'looking' for the opposite sex and likely aware of the others location.
Do they 'miss' each other. No, I don't think they are capable of that sort of complicated thought. I think they slept together because the spot was the best spot and they were 'competing' for it.

Failure is not an option. It comes bundled with the software.

Brian,

It makes me laugh when people say snakes don't have feelings (or any other animal, for that matter). Who's to say? How could one possibly know what an animal thinks?

As the most evolved species on the planet, we love to get inside the heads of other creatures and categorize them by brain-function. But I don't buy a lot of it.

In short, I believe what I experience first-hand, and not what people tell me. And it sounds like you're experiencing some very interesting behavior with your snakes.

Keep notes, and keep us posted.
