snakeman139 Jan 24, 2004 09:40 PM

If anyone can help me by giving any tips or success stories of getting a coral snake to feed on something other than snakes....it would be greatly appreciated.

Corals can be fussy little buggers.... The thing that has worked pretty well for me in the past is to soak a pink in chicken broth for about a half hour...... Keep the snake and the pinky in a dark tight sot with each other...... You can use a small rubbermaid that will fit in your enclosier...... It is not 100% but it has worked for me in the past...... Leave it in there over night and you may wake up to a full coral snake....

I've never kept corals before, but could one also try moistening some snake skin and wrapping the food in it? You might have to let it sit longer than a half hour though. Has anyone ever had any luck with this method?
I once saw a 23 foot anaconda eat a rabbit with duck feathers tied around it with sinew. Just a thought.

One would think a 23 ft. anaconda would require a bit more than a rabbit to be happy

Unless it was one of those Night Of The Lepus rabbits. They were mighty big.

The snake had previously been eating ducks, but the owner was all out. Just a snack to tide it over.

Night of the lepus?!?! One of those bunnies would destroy that snake! Thought I was the only one who actually sat down to watch it when they were a kid.

The article I wrote may be of some assistance. I have never tried to get them to eat anything other than what they feed on naturally. Not sure an animal designed to eat reptiles is going to get what it needs from mammals.

Thanx to all who have replied in attempt to help......I have caught corals before but never considered keeping them until now due to the difficulty in getting them to eat. I will attempt to get it to eat if not....i will feed it a few more snakes and let it go where I found it....Thanx again for everyone's help.
