Anyone know a current U.S. distributor for British-made HabiStats?

Mitch@HiersHerp Jan 24, 2004 10:34 PM

A while back I bought a used 3 ft. Neodesha cage that came
with a Living Earth Electronics HabiStat Dimming Thermostat
identical to one mounted on a 4 ft. Neodesha cage that I have.
Unfortunately, the one that came with the used 3 ft. cage is
missing one of its power cords. This unit is stamped "Made In
England" and is superficially similar to Habistat models I've
seen advertised in British herp magazines, but I am not certain
that HabiStat thermostat models exported for use here in the US
have the same configuration as the units sold for use in the UK.

This model has a permanently attached, heavy gauge power
cord (with a yellow three-pronged plug) that originates at the
point on the thermostat marked "mains." It has a shorter cord
originating at the point marked "heater" that is obviously meant
to be wired to whatever heat source one intends to use (i.e.,
Flexwatt, heat mat, Pearlco emitter, basking light, etc.). It
has the sensor cord originating at the point marked "sensor"
next to a small red knurled adjustment knob on the bottom.

What this unit is missing (that is present on the unit
mounted on my 4 ft. Neodesha cage) is a removable power cord
(with a white two-pronged plug) that is supposed to be inserted
into a small black socket shaped like a pair of eyes on the
bottom of the unit. I assume this would be the cord supplying
electricity to the thermostat itself, as opposed to the heavier
gauge cord with the yellow three-pronged plug which probably
supplies power to the heat source controlled by the thermostat.

If anyone knows of a US source from whom I can purchase
a replacement for the power cord that's missing from this unit,
please let me know. Were it not for the missing cord, I could
certainly utilize this thermostat on another cage I'd like to
set up soon. It may be that this part is obtainable from a
distributor of the HabiStat line here in the U.S., but so far
I've not located it. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

The missing cord that would plug into the two eyes is for the night drop -- just like on a Microclimate DL1. The other end of that missing cord would go into a timer. If you're not going to use a night drop you can use the HabiStat just as it is.

Any questions? I'll walk you through it.

Bill

Thanks, Bill. I've had some other responses confirming
you've said. It should work as is, but I'd still like to obtain
a replacement nighttime drop cord if possible. It would be nice
to at least have that option available to me. Thanks again.

The wire labeled MAINS is to plug into your MAINS SUPPLY (ie your electric supply) the wire labeled HEATER is for your hearing device and SENSOR is sensor

The small red dial underneath is the control for the nighttime drop for between 5 and 15 degrees and the two pin plug hole is for the wire that you attach to a timer for the NTL.

If you look to then right of the mouse rack you will notice that I use these, the wire coming out of the left side is to the timer.

I lost one of the timer wires and used a old 2 pin plug and wire from a portable radio. Im sure if you contacted the manufactor they would send you a replacement.

I forgot to give you the web address http://www.eurorep.co.uk/

Thanks, Peter. I'll try to find a replacement NTL cord.
