Considering gray TF for palludarium

drrich2 Jan 25, 2004 12:08 AM

Hi:

I am considering the possibility of moving 2 musk & a mud turtle to a 125 gallon tank (or larger), contingent upon my willingness to eventually blow the dough to do that. I already have a 200 gallon tank, but my stinkpot will try to kill other bottom-walkers so, well, there you go.

The 3 in question are in a 75 gallon tank. They move, that leaves me a tank. Got an idea. Make it a Palludarium with an emphasis on the aquatic but a significant land 'shelve' with soil, terrestrial plants, and maybe some 'pots' for plants built into a coating on the posterior wall. Figure to hold about 30 gallons actual H20 with a couple of (? spotted) newts, a couple of darters & maybe 3 other small fish, some Java fern, Java moss and Anubias.

I'm thinking about putting in some branches & vines along the back wall of that tank, covering it & including a gray tree frog. I've done some real superficial reading about newts (many require cool environs, many can live very long lives, some are very toxic, many amphibians are, mix the wrong ones & they can kill each other, etc...). I need to know more. But I really need to know more about gray tree frogs.

Is there an online web site, or a fine husbandry book, that's a 'one stop shop' to learn what I need to know about gray tree frogs?

Richard.

P.S.: I've into the turtle hobby for quite awhile so I realize the value of getting educated before getting the animals & setup. I also know finding one stop for a quick education, instead of lurking forums for months, can be daunting.

Just wanted to say that's a gorgeous palludarium photo you use as a signature.
