panther's eye

anel Jan 25, 2004 08:16 AM

My female panther chameleon's left eye suddenly closed one day. I took her to a exotic specialist and he said her eye had simply collapsed. Could not give me any treatment or reasons. She was eating just fine cathing with one eye. Then she fell pregnant and is about 3 days away from laying. Now her right eye has closed. Big problem. Can anyone please HELP!!! She is alone in her own set-up.

I did not mention that I have been putting gentomycin in her one eye since it closed the first time, and I give her a High-Vite drop that I got from the vet about once a week. Would this be the same as the liquid vitamin from Crickerfood.com? I tried washing her eye, but hardly any gentomycin or eye wash gets into her eye, cause it is closed the whole time. Any suggestions on how to get it into her eyes?

Hi Anel -

I have just recently been trying to help my baby panther Nosy Be with a left eye closure and I'm going to give you several different links but the one that I have actually been treating the eye with came from this link from Legendcham ( http://gallery.pethobbyist.com/index.pl?photo=123183 ) that is also a member of this site and a microbiologist,,, try this and let me know how things work. The very first step I did though was posted from this member chamsrcool here ( http://forums.kingsnake.com/view.php?id=325063,325175 ) If you would like to read the entire post and all threads use this link to get to the first post I put in just 2 days ago here ( http://forums.kingsnake.com/view.php?id=325063,325063 ) If you try the step that chamsrcool suggest make sure the water is as hot as it will come out of your tap, test it on your own hand or wrist but you will feel it only hits you feeling luke warm due to the air mix. I did this about an hour after posting and getting that answer and my Nosy Be opened its eyes right after that, There still seems to be a problem with the left eye but since then I have been using Legendcham advice and there has been noticable improvement. Read all the post that are listed under the first link I gave you and you will see the vitamins I use and there dosage as well. If you go out and buy vitamin A stand alone you should see right on the bottle "good for eyes and skin". Let me know how thins work out for you.

Good luck - Thomas
