Baby Hoehnellis are here.

Ivan Jan 25, 2004 12:12 PM

Hi everyone:

My baby Hoehnelli's were born today and they are beautiful. I have to tell you that witnessing a chameleon hatch is something great but witnessing the birth of these guys was even more breathtaking.

I got the pair of Hoehnellis from Rob at RK Reptiles and the female was already gravid. They are the highland variety and their colors are something else. The female is mossy green with blue stripes/triangles in her body. The male is rusty orange with a white head and blue spots on the body. The babies are all brown right now but the patterns are beautiful.

As hard as it is for me to say this, I have to admit that panthers and veileds get all the attention but these mountain species are probably more rewarding to work with. I already have a few other species of mountain chameleons I am working with but these guys are the first to give me babies. The next in line are the Elliots, which the female came gravid as well.

Congradts!!! It is always fun to see little babies being born and it is a really special event when they are live bearers. Of course you know everyone wants to see pictures of the new little ones

Congratulations on the new babies! I'm sure most of us here would love to see pictures when you get the chance.

I have never witnessed a livebearing female give birth, but I bet it is extremely amazing...I'm going to have to see it sometime soon.

Here is the only good picture I have of the babies. They move very fast and do not like to be held too long for a picture.
I have some pics taken through the cage screen of the baby in the membrane after being expelled by the female.
Hope you like the pic,
Ivan

Take care

She ended up giving me 12 perfect babies. I can only hope that they all do well and grow fast.
