My juvenile Boa has had a bad shed, Help...

SeanL Jan 25, 2004 07:31 PM

Hello, my juvenile Columbian Boa just had his third shed. The problem is it has skin stuck under its chin and bottom lip. My questions are is it ok to leave it till his next shed and hope it comes off then or should I make all efforts to remove it? Also if I try and remove it what is the best way and is there anything I can apply to the area to make the skin come off easyer? Ive tryed soaking but the skin is really stuck. Thanks Sean L.

The best solution I have found, to deal with the immediate problem, is to put the snake in a container of shallow( relative to the snake, usually about an inch deep; less for smaller colubrids) luke warm water with a wad of paper towels. They will usually shed by themselves within a half to three hours.
Good luck,
Max
