How healthy is it to feed roaches to a beardie and do u need specific roaches? Id be interested in making them a staple if possible cuz breeding wouldnt be too bad as in crickets which i cant do cuzof the noise and well lotsa escapes.
Thanx,

i peeked at the site but couldnt really find anything on how nutritious they are. Like can they be a staple or should be seen as a treat? And is there specific roaches that are better than others?
I dont know of anyone using them as a staple although I plan on trying it this breeding season. I have used them short term to substitute for crix but not more than a week. When I did, the baby beardies went nuts over them and even the picky ones ate up good. I personally like the Death Heads best as they don't climb or fly. Hissers are the biggest and meatiest but dragons aren't big enough to eat the adults. They get 3-4" long and bigger around than your thumb. Adult daeth heads dont make a good meal either so I just let them breed til they die or feed the extras off to my Tegus (10-20 lbs each). You can also use lobsters and feed all sizes but they dont get much bigger than crix. All of them are easier to digest than crix or worms. They are expensive to buy and take a long time to raise. If you are only feeding a couple of animals, start a colony and in about 6 months time you will be good to go.
