My father... update

BeginnersBasics Jan 25, 2004 09:15 PM

Ok, to all who knew about what was going on with my father, I now have an update for you. He came down here and spent Christmas with me and went back to VA January to begin radiation treatments for the brain tumors. They have now found the primary source of his cancer and it appears to be Esophagus (not sure I spelt that right) and is basically not able to be treated. He also has tumors in his lungs and liver as well as his brain. It was decision time and he listed his house for sale on Friday...... well here comes the good news of this post! He had 30 people come and view the house on Saturday and Sunday and had 12 offers sent in. 8 of the offers were above his asking price and they included the work that needs doing to the house (carpets, roof, paint, etc). He has accepted an offer of $6,000 more than his asking price and he is not responsible for any of the needed work. It is selling "as is". He will be coming back down here to florida Friday!!! Before he leaves VA, he is getting a "limited" power of attorney drawn up so his realtor (friend of the family) can sign at closing in mid February. Then his $$ will be sent to him here in Florida.

Here is a picture of him taken while he was here during December

Lisa,

I haven't been posting on the bearded dragon forum at all, but I have been thinking about getting one (or more ) of these fascinating creatures and have read the posts by other people, and by you, of course.

I wish you and your father the best. I hope that everything works out for you guys.

Your friend,

Beautiful Dragons

Let me say that I am very sorry for the bad news about the cancer but I think it is fantastic that you will be able to be with him as he goes through all of this. Family will make it much easier on him. My grandmother went in about 6 years ago as she was having pain in her knee and it was a replacement knee so that really set off the alarms. Anyway they found it was a tumor growing on the plastic joint. As they did further tests they found that it originated in the breast and by the time that she had first gone to the doctor she had tumors on her brain, three behind each eye, in her breast and lungs. Basically it had run its course through her entire body. She stayed in her home with my grandfather for about six months until my grandfather had congestive heart failure. At that time she went into a nursing home for about a week and everyone was going between the hospital for my grandfather and the nursing home for my grandmother. My grandma passed away after only a few days in the nursing home. All I can say is God Bless You and try to make the best out of the time that you have with him because it will mean the most. I hope that all goes well and you and your children will mean the world to him. Grandchildren have the most amazing way of making grandparents smile in the worst of times.
