my ct looking rough

yellermelon Jan 26, 2004 12:43 AM

hey i have a awsome carrot tail, but anyway. i bought her and a bliz at a show back in sept. i quarentined and made sure they were both fine. they were. they are also the same size roughly so i introduced them and had no problems. i then put them in a 40 breeder tank. they both ate well and gained weight and theyre tails became quite plump then out of the blue she stopped eating and begain loosing weight i immediatly put her in a seperate tank and put newspaper around it to "seclude her"i have crickets in a escape proof dish in there 24/7 also meallies.she still refuses to eat she does drink water when i spray the cage. all my other geckos are fine and my bliz that was in with her is doing absolutley wonderful. i was thinking it could be parasites like coccidia or a worm, but poo looks great when she does poo (rarely now) no smell out of the ordinary....could it be winter? what do you all suggest?

i had one other do this awhile back but he didnt loose as much weight, he finally started eating well again and gaining weight..like a seasonal thing or somthing?

It is normal for geckos to slow their eating and sometimes even stop eating at this time of year, but usually you don't see a lot of weight loss associated with this, I think sometimes they do a mini-brumation, hanging on the cool side...

Was she on granular substrate or with a male?

she lost a good bit i havent actually weighed her she went fromthe wide chunky look to long and skinny. shes still growing and shedding and changing color just not getting fat. i did have her with my blizzard but im almost sure its also a girl. shes seperated now tho. she was on bed a best. ive never in 3 years had any problems with impaction from bed a beast nor have i even heard of problems though....

I don't know much about bed a beast. I know blizzards have a rep for being aggressive, maybe she was getting bullied? If she doesn't start eating more and putting on weight in the next few weeks now that you have them seperated, or if she has runny stools, I'd get a fecal. If it comes out positive for worms or whatever, you'll need to treat both animals even if your blizz isn't showing symptoms. Good luck.
