bobfc Jan 26, 2004 11:40 AM

approximately 3 yo male; 45"; has stopped eating; checked Iguana book; everything is logged out; except breeding; is alone; is that possible; is very aleart and super active; climbs all over cage; he only did that after defacting; now all the time; used to have him eat like a pig; now takes a bite and leaves it; it's been about a week;
book says if he stops eating, something is wrong;
worried

Hi, Sounds like breeding behaviour to me...keep him hydrated, maybe make a luv sock to get his "Jollies" on and keep offering food...My guy eats less at this time of the year also...doesnt stop eating altogether like some I have heard about, but definitely slows down...also he turns bright orange in color and bobs his head a whole lot more...lol....good luck....If you are still worried, maybe a vet visit is in order? thanks for your help; this is new behavior so I was worried; he lives in roomy cage; no parasites; has bowel movements but since he's not eating; there's not very much; don't know anything about breeding; how long will this last? didn't know if he'd get into it since he's alone; guess I got to do some reading up on all this; thanks again

I must honestly say, since I'm not an expert on lizard, I have little clue to what it might be, an illness or what. However, I can tell you what I would do in hopes that you will find the problem yourself. Reconfigure your tank set up such as temperature and humidity. I believe its nutritional problems, vitamin supplements? Or it can be parasitic problems if problems presist even after you do all of the above. Hope I've helped a small bit if not a lot. Have a nice and enjoyable day, bye.
