Getting a little worried...

paradisio Jan 26, 2004 02:58 PM

Going on my third day of having my leos, and one of them still isn't eating... Tried crickets and mealworms and nothing... The others eat 4-5 no problem and competiton is not a problem... He bit one but then just let it sit there... Any help is appreciated

how about seperating him from the others

Hmm I would prefer to save that as a last resort, he is really friendly to the other geckos, but he tries to climb the glass, maybe he is just stressed... hmm

its not uncommon for leos to not eat for a week when you get them. they need to get used to the new suroundings once he is not stressed he will probably eat. dont worry for a week or so.

Hi

Since you said that he bit a cricket but then he let it go, try the next one or two sizes down in a cricket to feed him.

Maybe he is big enough to take the size you are feeding him, but maybe he himself doesn't feel ready.

You could try to contact the place were you got him and find out what they were feeding him. I have heard of breeders that will feed there baby's small mealworms from the start and continue.

Maybe one of these idea's can help you. Hang in there, he nows that you care for him and are concerned.

Actually, seperating them would be one of the first things I'd do (force feeding being the absolute last). Maybe she's a shy feeder and doesn't like to feed around other geckos (every gecko has his/her own personality right?). Heck my gecko knows when I go to have dinner and has his dinner while I'm away. Did you try wax worms? Addictive yes, but you can use them to see if she'll eat atleast something.

Also, it's normal for new geckos to not eat for a while (up to a week for adults) when they move in to a new home.

BTW, where'd you get them? Last time I heard you turned down those off looking geckos from someone after you did some website work for them. I hope the geckos you have now are alot better looking that those did.

I got them from the same person, but they were in a lot better condition than those photos, they are only a month old. I took some pictures but they didn't come out, I will post some later

I've had shipped geckos take up to ten days to start eating. Well, with those it did turn out they had worms. Don't know if that had anything to do with it or not. But three days- I wouldn't worry. Don't handle it and leave it alone.

I will give my little tang a few more days before I worry, there is a vet up the street I will go check tomorrow to see if they treat reptiles just to be safe.
