jay w. Jan 26, 2004 03:21 PM

I haven't seen too much in the way of easterns. Anyone working with this underated species? If so, what locales? I plan on putting a small group of OH. locale milks together this spring.

If either of you have pics, I would love to see them. I plan on getting some this summer. A lot of NA milks are underrated, and I agree that the eastern is one of them. Especially some of the real nice red locales.-Brett

What are the legal issues involved with the keeping and breeding of native PA snakes. It was my understanding that it was not allowed.

I have a 4 eastern milks that are from oswego county NY I got them from a friend who found eggs and hatched them out of 6 babys he hatched 5 and 3 of them took pinky mice so I decided to keep them. I also have a very light female eastern. some day when I get a good camera I will post pics. Easterns are my all time favorite

I am not at liberty to give a locale yet(and if I have told you neither are YOU,LOL) but these are very neat "easterns".This population isnt hi-red but VERY large and variable with clean cream and few intermediates. That Cecil Co.MD post a few days ago I think should be considered an EASTERN--and what an eastern! Anyway, I dont know how to post pics but if anyone wants to see a BIG milk email me,Jeff

I will be putting together a group of 1.2 this spring.Central Pa. locale with burgandy saddles, I hope.I find a few of these each year and have kept them in the past including a 46" specimen. They are a much underated snake, and I have had positive experiances with the ones I have kept. They took F/T and tamed well.

I live in Lebanon County, PA, (Southeastern PA) and have been looking for wild easterns for the past two years. I haven't found any yet, but i saw one about five minutes after my pastor spazzed out on it with a garden hoe. He was from CA, and was a total ophidiophobic. I've asked on this forum before, but any more advice would still be helpful, especially since you know the general area.

Thanks,
Cooper

In the mountains milks are very common, just watch out for coppers and rattlers.Set up your own spots,HUNT THE RIGHT DAYS and you may get lucky.Jeff

Flip rocks and look in rocky crevasses in rocky areas where the are lots of frogs, toads, garter, brown and/or water snakes.

I keep a few Vermillion Co. Illinois/Indiana locality. I'd like to breed them but don't because I live in Illinois and can't legally sell them without a permit. I guess if I thought there was a market I'd get the permit. I have a really strange female with green saddles. Doesn't look like the others from that locale. Never had one musk or bite out of the wild as adults.
