There are a few variations of the H. simus however they are not as variant as their eastern cousins......You have pretty much summed up the bulk of the variations, some lighter, some darker, gray to brown but there are a few exceptions to the rule....Like a orange phase Male that is owned by Kevin Enge....here is a female that I own which is a Red variation....No melanistic specimens have been caught to my knowledge and the only amel died in captivity years ago. BUMMER! There are some locality similarities but I've seen specimens that look like they are siblings that were caught 100 miles apart and specimens that were caught with in 1/2 a mile of each other that look totally different. Either way Southerns kick ass!
