HELP WITH TEMP

Chuck420 Jan 26, 2004 04:08 PM

i am going to be moving my corn up to a 29 gallon and my king up to a 35 from two 20 longs i was wondering if having 2 lights instead of one now is going to bother them? because to make the temps right i need 2 lights on top though i am going to pick up some 10 inch domes instead of 8 inch and see how that works for them. any advice is appreciated

What sort of bulb are you using?

I was using a 60 watt ceramic bulb for my 20 gallon long tank, but my snake was telling me that it was too hot (pressed up against the glass on the other side or crammed in his water bowl), though the temps were well within range. I've since changed it to a 30 watt and he still seems to prefer the cool side, though he is now thermoregulating more.

I'd try a ceramic bulb to see if that will work. They are more expensive that a regular bulb, but they work better and last longer, IMO.

A ceramic bulb is a good idea. It provides a good source of heat without putting off any light. Also, if you need to just add a few degrees, try a black or infra-red light. They also put off very little light, and can help you nail the temps you're going for. I have a lower wattage black light that really just adds about 5 degrees of ambient temp, but in my ten gallon with a heat pad, it's all I really need.

right now im using a 50 watt for my corn and 75 for the king i tried getting 10 inch dome lights but i cant seem to get the temps as high as they should unless i use 2 really strong lights and that was just for the 29 gallon. and im not sure if that would be ok for the corn or not being under that much light :S anyway ill have to figure somethin out thanks
