Am I doing this properly with my boas

bigdee Jan 26, 2004 05:32 PM

I got them a like winter of last yr for breeding my female was like 3' and like 1 1/2-2yrs old she is now like 6'. My male was like a yealing and he is now like 4'. I had them housed together since they where big enough and its been no breeding. I was told to seperate them and cool. Now they been seperated over a week now, should I introduce him weekly or keep him seperated for a certain time? As far as cooling well seems like thats being done because I checked the temp and at night its in the 50's and I have the oil filled radiator type heater thats on high.

From what I've read and absorbed from posts here on the forum, females should be a min. 3-3.5 yrs. old, not saying a younger female could'nt breed succesfully, I feel age plays a more important role than size & weight.
As far as your temps, 50's are way to low...especially for BCI. Some don't even temp cycle their "common boas", but if you decide to cool them I would go no lower than the upper 60's at night and warm them back up to the mid 80's during the day...close monitoring for respiratory infections during this whole process.
If you do a search here in the forums you'll find a ton of info. besides what I've just given you.

Good luck,
Philip

Please do a search on here and do a lot of reading. I would not recommend you ever having your boas below about 72. Type in temps in the search function then read, read. read. There is a ton of useful info here. Craig Kade
